Steam traisn at Goathland Station - Goathland

Goathland

As a central point in the North York Moors National Park, Goathland has plenty of walks in almost every direction for you to explore. Waterfalls are in their abundance here too, the most well known being the Mallyan Spout, Water Ark and Thomason Foss.

Goathland’s biggest claim to fame was serving as the set for the fictional town of Aidensfield in the Heartbeat television series, set in the 1960s. You will notice many of the series’ famous landmarks are still recognisable including the pub, railway station and garage. On top of this, Goathland railway station was selected as the location for Hogsmeade railway station in the phenomenal Harry Potter films, the line was even filmed for Harry’s journey.

Goathland has a station on the fantastic North Yorkshire Moors Railway where the steam trains begin at Pickering and run up to Grosmont; during the summer, certain trains run between Pickering and Whitby. Goathland is only 9 miles south-west of Whitby and 14 miles north of Pickering, on the A169. Whitby and Pickering offer many tourist attractions; The Captain Cook Museum, Whitby Gothic Weekends, Flamingo Landthe Beck Isle Museum and Eden Camp.
